Icon Set and Branding for a cultural festival.

Kieztanz – The fictive artistic, musical and culinary neighborhood festival. There are all sorts of concerts, street art, pop-up galleries, exhibitions, theatre and short film screenings, food and beverages from all over the world and workshops organized. The designed pictograms consist each of one closed shape and further lines. Those lines are "dancing" and join together to the big picture. They visualize the name of the festival and its intention to figuratively dance to new experiences and inspirations through the festival weekend. The different colors, defined within a rectangular tetrad color scheme, characterize the four categories of the festival.

Based on the pictograms, I designed a program booklet, four event posters, each for every category and a concept for the guide system. The guide system will be used during the event. To show the festival’s crafted and sustainable attempt, the pictograms are applied with colored duck tape on the street and the buildings to show which offer you find inside – whether a concert, an exhibition or something different.

2015 – semester 4, under the lead of Prof. Daniel Utz

The icons consist of recurring elements. These can be categorized:

  • Purple: Rectangles formed by two lines that are not closed. Open triangular shapes are also marked in purple

  • Red: Two lines that are connected by a small gap and merge into the shapes.

  • Blue: Circle elements, which are either used directly in different sizes or used for construction of the icons.

  • Green: More details that appear several times to create a consistent overall picture.
